Besides the forts and palaces at pink city- the capital city of Rajasthan has got many things to entertain the ever flocking tourists. The entertainment industry in Jaipur promises to meet the needs of the tourists. Of course there are no beaches and amusement parks in Jaipur but live media compensate for it.
The cinemas and theatres are popular medium of entertainment. Theatre shows include Kalbelia Dancers, Puppeteers and Bhopa Bhopi which displays heritage of jaipur, jaipur tradition and Rajasthan's heritage. Traditional band playing has been revived by the Department of Tourism at the Ram Niwas Bagh. There are shows hosted on classical Indian arts and plays. Artists from all over even from other countries perform in the shows.
Band Playing (Ram Niwas Bagh) an age old tradition of "Band Playing" has been revived by the Department of Tourism placed at the Ram Niwas Bagh. This entertainment programme would be held every Saturday evening. Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh started this tradition. He invited a band master from Germany and formed a group which played the band every Monday evening after the sun set.
The Ravindra Rang Manch Usually is booked by schools, colleges etc. but at times there are special shows of classical Indian arts and plays.
Jawahar Kala Kendra theatre is the part of city entertainment center, From time to time the theatre has shows by artists from other states and countries.

CITY PALACE AND S.M.S. II MUSEUM - The city place situated in the heart of the old City, it occupies about one seventh of the old city area. The palace is a blend of Rajput and Mugal architecture; it houses a seven storeyed Chandra Mahal in the centre, which affords a fine view of the gardens and the city. Diwan-E-Am (Hall of public audience) has intricate decorations and collection of manuscripts, Diwan-E-Khas (Hall of private audience) has a marble pawed gallery Mubarak Mahal has a rich collection of costumes and textiles.
There is a Clock Tower situated near Mubarak Mahal. Sileh Khana has a collection of armory and weapons. Timing 9.30 to 16.45 hrs. JANTAR MANTAR (Observatory) - It is built in 18th century by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the huge masonary instruments were used to study the movement of constellations and stars in the sky. Enormous sun-dial still provides accurate time, which is subject to daily corrections. Timing 9.00 to 16.30 hrs, Entry Fee Rs. 10.00. |
